Outrage as police storm holy site

The Dome of the Rock in the centre of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem

Palestinians have protested to the United Nations after Israeli police stormed a sensitive Jerusalem holy site to disperse a violent protest, hours before parliament debated a nationalist MP's motion to extend control over it.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said about 20 masked Palestinian youths hurled stones and firecrackers at troops from the top of the Temple Mount. Police then entered the compound and arrested three people. Two officers were slightly wounded.
The Palestinian Observer Mission at the United Nations protested to the Security Council, accusing Israel of escalating "aggression, provocation and incitement" at the holy site in an illegal attempt to forcibly assert control over it.
In a letter to the council Palestinian charge d'affaires Feda Abdelhady-Nasser said Israeli forces violently stormed the compound yesterday, "attacking and injuring Palestinian worshippers with rubber-coated steel bullets and tear gas canisters and arresting several worshippers".
The site, known to Muslims as the al-Aqsa Mosque or Noble Sanctuary, is ground zero in the territorial and religious conflict between Israel and its Arab neighbours. Clashes often erupt after Muslims conclude their prayers.
Jews typically pray below at the Western Wall but tensions have grown lately with an increased number of Jews arriving to pray at the Temple Mount as well.
Revered as Islam's third holiest spot, the site's iconic gold-topped Dome of the Rock enshrines the rock where Muslims believe the Prophet Mohammed ascended to heaven. Jews believe the rock may be where the holiest part of the two ancient temples stood about 2,000 years ago - and where religious Jews pray a third temple will one day be built.
The site is so holy that Jews have traditionally refrained from praying on the hilltop, but attitudes among some Orthodox Jews have been evolving and there has been growing demand to allow Jews to pray there freely as well.
Nationalist MP Moshe Feiglin of prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud Party, who has been leading the charge, initiated the parliamentary discussion. No vote was taken and no decision made.
Azzam Khatib, director general of the Waqf, Jordan's Islamic authority that currently manages religious affairs at site, said the clash followed rumours that Jewish extremists were planning to enter the compound and raise the Israeli flag. He said the entire compound was Muslim and they would not allow anyone to change that situation.
"I hope they have some rational people in the government to stop them from provoking us," he said.
Ms Abdelhady-Nasser accused Mr Feiglin of "reckless actions" and called on the Security Council to give urgent attention to the "Israeli acts of incitement, provocation and aggression (which) are intended to deliberately provoke Palestinian, Arab and Muslim sensitivities and could have extremely dangerous and widespread consequences".
She sent similar letters to the UN General Assembly and to secretary general Ban Ki-moon.
The Palestinians claim east Jerusalem, and the Old City, as the capital of their future state. The status of the site remains perhaps the most sensitive and explosive issue in US-brokered peace talks.
Mr Netanyahu's office strongly rejects Mr Feiglin's initiative believing any change to the status quo could spark violence and unsettle the talks.
Mickey Levy, Israel's deputy finance minister and a former commander of the Jerusalem District Police, called the site "a keg of dynamite" and urged restraint.
Zehava Galon, head of the dovish Meretz Party, said yesterday's riot was a direct result of Mr Feiglin's "religious provocation". She said her party recognised the right to free worship at holy sites, but not every right had to be realised and at this time doing so would merely inflame the region.
Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas' office also issued a statement condemning what it called "continuous Israeli incursions" into the site.
"Such assaults are not only a danger to holy places but also creates an atmosphere that will increase violence and hatred and convert the conflict into a dangerous religious conflict," it said.

Yes, I’m Pregnant For Tuface Idibia –– Lagos Female Banker Teniola Opens Up

While Tuface Idibia and his wife Annie are trying hard to deny the story that he has put his account officer in the family way, the lady has finally broken her silence, revealing all that happened between she and Tuface.
Her name is Teniola and she is a big girl in one of the top banks in Lagos. She said 2face has been enjoying her secretly for sometime now until the “rough play” resulted in pregnancy and he started asking her to go in for an abortion but she refused. She said the story was leaked to the media so as to protect her life.
She decided to speak after Annie tried to defend Tuface. In the words of Teniola:
“My name is Teniola. Please I want my privacy kept secret. I just want to respond to Tuface’s denial of my pregnancy. I‘m 3.5 month pregnant for him and he is fully aware of it. His recent denial is to appease his wife and I understand that…
“Note, I didn’t receive any money from the magazine that published my story. My elder sister took my story there to draw public attention in case something bad happens to me. And I’m not really happy about it. Please I want privacy for myself and my unborn child.”
In his earlier reaction, Tuface had claimed that the story is false and that if he impregnated any lady he would be the first to tell the media. On her part, Annie Idibia said those who wrote it want to spoil her happiness.
But now that Teniola has finally come out to speak by herself, it’s believed that Tuface may decide go and do the honourable thing then keep quiet and take care of his unborn baby mama as the price of his enjoyment”.

Dozens reported killed in attack in Nigeria Boko Haram blamed for raid involving shooting, burning to death of people and trashing of ruler's palace in Borno state.

Armed men from Nigeria's Boko Haram group have attacked the northeastern town of Bama, opening fire on a school, shooting or burning to death 47 people and trashing the palace of a traditional ruler, according to officials and witnesses.
The death toll was confirmed by Lawal Tanko, police commissioner for Borno state, which lies at the heart of an insurgency that has killed thousands in the past four and half years.
Many more were wounded in Wednesday's attack, he said.
He said the assailants had also partly burned down the palace of the traditional ruler of Borno, whose kingdom was one of West Africa's oldest medieval Islamic caliphates.
Boko Haram killed 106 people in Ighze village on Sunday, according to official figures, making it one of their deadliest assaults so far.
That prompted the Borno state governor to say the rebels were better armed and motivated than government forces.

The military denied that Boko Haram were better armed or motivated and said it was making progress, but that no country facing terrorism had defeated it completely.
Security offensive
President Goodluck Jonathan ordered extra troops into northeast Nigeria in May to crush Boko Haram, which opposes Western influence and wants to create a state ruled by Islamic law in the country's largely Muslim north.
However, the offensive, backed by air power, has so far failed.
The fighters have retreated into the remote, hilly Gwoza area bordering Cameroon, from where they mount deadly attacks against civilians they accuse of being pro-government, and are abducting scores of girls.
Earlier on Wednesday, Boko Haram fighters attacked the house of an army general in the village of Buratai in Borno state, killing a soldier guarding it, Tanko said.
He said General Umar Tukur Buratai, who is stationed in the southern Niger Delta, was not there at the time of the assault, which had inflicted "minimal damage".

The attacks came as Abubakar Shekau, Boko Haram's reputed leader, threatened assaults in Nigeria's oil-rich Niger Delta region in a new video released on Wednesday.
"You will in coming days see your refinery bombed," Shekau warned in the 28-minute video obtained by the AFP news agency through the same channel as previous clips.
It is unclear when the video was recorded.
"Niger Delta, you are in trouble," Shekau said, speaking in Hausa, the dominant language in northern Nigeria.
The video was shot in an open field, where Shekau was surrounded by an armoured tank, two military vans and about a dozen gun-bearing soldiers.

Ethiopian passenger jet hijacked in Sudanese airspace

Ethiopian airlines plane: Image by DENIS BALIBOUSE/Newscom/RTR
February 17, 2014 (ADDIS ABABA) - An Ethiopian co-pilot on Monday sought asylum in Switzerland after he hijacked an Ethiopian Airlines passenger plane en route from Addis Ababa to Rome via Khartoum.
The hijacker, identified as Hailemedhin Abera, took control of the plane after locking the cockpit shortly after the captain left the flight deck to use the toilet.

According to the Ethiopian government, the hijacking drama began while the plane was in Sudanese airspace.
Once in Italian airspace, Abera, diverted the plane’s route to the Swiss capital, Geneva, where he subsequently asked for asylum.

According to media reports, Abera descended to the tarmac after landing, using a rope thrown from the cockpit window.
Abera admitted he had carried out the hijacking under subsequent questioning by Swiss police.
He claimed to have force-landed the plane in Geneva for fear of prosecution in Ethiopia, without providing further details.
Speaking at a news conference later the same day, Ethiopia’s information minister, Redwne Hussein, thanked the Swiss government for facilitating the plane’s safe landing.

He said the hijacker could face at least 20 years behind bars for hijacking and hostage-taking.
Both Ethiopia and Switzerland are signatory to the international convention on aircraft hijacking, with Abera expected to be extradited to his home country face the charges.

In cockpit recordings shortly after landing, the hijacker is heard asking for asylum, as well as seeking assurances from Swiss authorities he would not be transferred to Ethiopia.

Swiss police said the man was unarmed and did not behave in a threatening or violent manner towards passengers, who were reportedly unaware a hijacking was in progress until landing in Geneva, where the plane was swiftly surrounded by police.

One Ethiopian Airline official told Sudan Tribune that passengers didn’t notice the hijacking drama going on behind the scenes, as crew sought to prevent causing any panic among passengers.

According to the official, 193 passengers were on board the 767-300 Boeing aircraft at the time, including 140 Italians, 11 Americans and 10 Ethiopians.

The hijacking incident is the first to occur in the flag carrier’s recent history, which is among the largest and most successful on the African continent.

African bishops speak out against raft of anti-gay laws

Recently the Ugandan and Nigerian parliaments both passed severe anti-gay legislation. Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has vetoed it; Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan signed it into law. Other countries, such as Cameroon and Tanzania, are proposing to pass similar legislation.
These laws are not intended to render same-sex acts illegal — they already are, and punishable, in most African countries — but to persecute people on the basis of their sexual orientation.
Such laws are not only unjust, but they also have the potential to tear at the fabric of society if they are misused to facilitate false denunciations for gain, advancement or vengeance, much as what Christians are exposed to in Pakistan under that country’s intolerable blasphemy law.
There is a deep-seated sense of homophobia running throughout Africa, and beyond (Russia, for example, recently also passed anti-gay laws). African leaders routinely engage in populist homophobic rhetoric, often putting forward the fiction that homosexuality is “un-African”.
In some cases, such as Nigeria’s, homophobic sentiments and laws are deployed for political profit by embattled leaders.
Even in South Africa, where homosexuality and same-sex marriages are legal, homophobic bigotry finds expression in violent attacks on homosexuals and in “corrective” rape, both of men and women. Often these crimes are unreported or ignored by the police.
The effects of homophobia are also seen in the inordinately high rate of suicides among homosexuals, especially teenagers.
Homophobia is largely premised on a false notion that homosexuality is chosen and curable. This month, Spanish Cardinal-elect Fernando Sebastián Aguilar, retired bishop of Pamplona, made the astonishing claim that homosexuality is a “defect” comparable to his condition of high blood pressure.
In Africa, homophobic perceptions are encouraged by fundamentalist Christian groups, generally imported from the United States, which are said to agitate for anti-gay legislation, and by the proponents of the Islamic sharia law.
Their position is in conflict with Catholic teachings. The Church cannot sponsor the criminalisation of matters of private morality, and much less the advocacy of human rights. Prejudice and the persecution of homosexuals are in defiance of Catholic doctrine.
Even as it emphatically rejects homosexual carnal acts, the Catechism of the Catholic Church declares that “every sign of unjust discrimination in their [homosexuals’] regard should be avoided”. The Catechism further demands that homosexuals “must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity” (2358).
Jailing homosexuals for being gay and insisting on their human rights, or even for having sex, self-evidently is a sign of “unjust discrimination” that lacks in respect and compassion.
While the Church’s teachings prevent her from standing with homosexuals on many issues, especially same-sex marriage, she has an obligation, mandated by Christ, to be in solidarity with all those who are unjustly marginalised and persecuted.
Alas, the Church has been silent, in some cases even quietly complicit, in the discourse on new homophobic laws. This absence of intervention for justice may well be interpreted, wrongly or not, as approval of injustice, in line with the maxim Qui tacet, consentire videtur (Silence gives consent).
Instead, the Church should present herself as compassionate and courageous in standing with the those living in fear.
African bishops especially ought to speak out, as loudly as they do on same-sex marriage, against the discriminatory legislation and violence directed at homosexuals, many of whom are fellow Catholics.
Where is the prophetic voice of the Church in condemning the general homophobia in society?
It would require a very peculiar reading of the Gospel to locate Jesus anywhere else but at the side of the marginalised and vulnerable. The Church must be seen to be standing with Jesus and those who face unjust persecution, even if — especially if — it does not condone the lifestyles of those at risk.
That would be true Christian witness.

2face Rubbishes Infidelity Claims

Fews hours ago, we reported that 2face Idibia had impregnated a top Lagos banker. According to Icon Weekly magazine, the young Lagos banker who works for one of the new generation banks, Teniola, took in about three months ago.
The Magazine reported thus; “We gathered that Teniola, who hails from Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has been 2Face’s account officer for a long time now. Teniola, a graduate of University of Lagos, might just be another victim of the pressures marketers in the banking sector face to lure customers with everything they have.
“The interesting part of the story is that 2Baba, as he’s fondly called, allegedly wants the pregnancy terminated! Our source revealed to us that he has been begging Teniola with a brand new car to get rid of the pregnancy and keep this scandal out of media radar.” The Magazine further reported.
Reacting to the report however, 2face Idibia sarcastically tweeted that he intends creating a local government of kids.
He further rubbished the report and claimed that if any of such had happened, he would have been the first to announce it to the media.

Magun’ saga: I Had s*x With My Husband’s Nephew – Wife Confesses

The death of two brothers in Lagelu Local Government area (Ibadan) Oyo state has continued to cause controversy in Jagun village, their native home.
Kunmi and Niyi Adetokun, lost their lives in mysterious circumstances after reportedly both indulging in illicit affairs with their uncles’ wives.
One uncle, the former Balogun of Jagun, Olusegun Ojetade, is said to have been responsible for placing the native charm known as “Magun” on the women leading to the deaths of both his nephews.
The Balogun’s wife, Rachael, is said to have confessed to the affair with her husband’s nephew, Kunmi, which resulted in his death.
The Baale of Jagun, Chief Isiaka Akinpelu said: I called Balogun’s wife, Rachael, to get her side of the relationship between her and late Kunmi.
“She admitted openly that she had s*x with Kunmi and that there was a time her husband saw her with Kunmi and the husband challenged her and reported her to the oldest woman in the family.
I asked her again whether Kunmi had s*x with her and she answered in affirmation, saying that she did not understand how it happened and added that Kunmi must have used charms on her. In order not to embarrass her, I asked her to go and warned everyone not to insult the family, but to concentrate on what to do so that the life of the younger brother could be saved.
“I asked her husband what could be done to save the life of Kunmi’s younger brother, saying in Yoruba: A na omo naa lo mo aremo, meaning that it is the person who beats a child that knows what to do placate the child. Segun Ojetade replied openly that there was no problem concerning that as he knew what to do and where to get the antidote for the Magun.
“The following day, he called and demanded for transport fare to where he would get the antidote and I gave him N1000. On Thursday, December 5, 2013, he went to Oje area where Niyi was being taken care of. He was with Pa Adekanmbi, the family head, and Seun, Niyi’s brother. Seun called me and said Ojetade needed N4,000 for the antidote. I asked him to tell Ojetade to use his money; that I would refund him.
That was around 12 noon. Seun called me at about 7.30p.m. and said Niyi was dead. It was so painful that he died despite all the moves we made.

2 Human Heads and "So Many Cell Phones" Seized from Nigerian Restaurant

According to Nigerian tabloid the Osun Defender, a restaurant in Anambra, Nigeria was raided by police on Thursday when they were tipped off about their cannibal menu. Among the items that were found in the raid were two cellophaned human heads, two AK-47 rifles, two army caps, forty rounds of live ammunition, and "so many cell phones."
A local pastor gave a statement regarding his potential ingestion of human flesh, saying "I did not know it was human meat that I ate at such [an] expensive price." Police have arrested 11 people connected with the restaurant and it has since been shut down. One can only speculate why the large number of cell phones weren't used to call other restaurants regarding which meat could possibly be better to eat than head meat

Fake Plastic Surgeon filled Woman’s Face with ‘cement’

Fake surgeon, Oneal Ron Morris, who is also transgender, seen above at her trial.
Rajee says she’s ready to date again after the botched surgery was fixed.
“For years I was too ashamed and embarrassed to face dating. Now I’m feeling more confident and with a good bit of makeup I can achieve somewhat of an exotic look. Recently this guy said that being with me is like being with a sexy dragon. I didn’t know whether to slap him or kiss him.” She said
Cement on face 1
Rajee is given monthly softening injections and laser therapy by doctors at Cosmetic Reconstructive Surgery in Miami and this has helped reduce the size of the bulge on her face.
Rajee explained why she did the surgery back in 2005.
“The last thing I wanted was to look like a man in a dress. I wanted to be a beautiful woman. If you really want to live your authentic self as a woman you need to do some sort of face and body reconstruction. So I made the choice to get injections done. In our community it is called ‘pumping’.”
“When it finally came to the day, I was more excited than nervous because I was finally going to be the woman I had always wanted to be. There was a room that she had set up where she did a lot of medical procedures. It appeared to be pretty sterile. It was like an extra bedroom that she had turned into a clinical area and I would go in and pay the money.
“I got injections in my face and my hips and my buttocks and initially I was fine. But then the nightmare started. It first felt like a huge boil on the side of my face and then it kept getting bigger and bigger as the day went along.
“It got really painful and then suddenly green pus exploded out of my face and onto the mirror. It was green and yellow and mixed with blood. It was terrible. Sometimes I wake up in bed in the middle of the night and I ask myself: ‘What have you done?’
“My message to anyone that would consider doing what I did is don’t do it. Do not do it. You could die or you could end up like me: disfigured.”
Rajee, spent years in solitude suffering from post-traumatic stress, depression and agoraphobia until two years ago when her predicament was made public and a plastic surgeon offered to help her for free.

Lagos State Deputy Governor’s Spiritual Father, Prophet I.T Adewoye Caught Pant Down With Female Church Member In Their Home (Photos)

Special Apostle/Prophet I.T. Adewoye is one of the leaders of Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church Worldwide. In his seventies, Prophet Adewoye is the spiritual leader and founder of Ayo Nio at the Idimu District in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.
His church located at 22, Idimu-Egbeda Road, Pipeline B/Stop is only a step to the Police Command at Idimu. One of the 53 district headquarters of C&S in Nigeria, USA and Europe, Ayo Nio is a big church congregation.
Impeccable sources claimed that Prophet Adewoye wields enormous influence in the area, and is often consulted on issues by individuals and groups. It is said that among those who go to him for spiritual help is Lagos State Deputy Governor, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire.

From a polygamous family, Adejoke’s father, Alh. Saka Orelope is a popular politician in Alimosho Local Government. Her first marriage to an ambulance driver with National Orthopedic Hospital (Gbobi), Toyin Kembi, and father of her children collapsed like a badly arranged pack of cards.
However, if Prophet Adewoye and the Lagos deputy governor’s relationship has been hitch free, that of a private one, between the septuagenarian and a female member of his church, Mrs. Lateefat Balogun (photographed with Prophet Adewoye on her matrimonial bed) has landed him in hot water.
The Prophet Adewoye enjoyed romantic tryst with Mrs. Balogun. It was said that their secret love nest was the recess of the church. At times, they made use of Mrs. Balogun’s matrimonial home around Abidap Hotel at Abesan Housing Esate, Ipaja, whenever her husband was out of town.
It was gathered that their last meeting at Mrs. Balogun’s matrimonial home has pulled apart the curtains to reveal what was going on in the backstage of the revered man of God’s life. He was caught red-handed and photographed n*de by Mrs. Balogun’s husband.
Boiling with rage, Mr. Balogun took out his anger by dragging Prophet Adewoye to the Police Command at Idimu where he was begged not to press charges against the septuagenarian pastor.

Algeria: Plane crash kills 77, leaves a lone survivor

The U.S.-built C-130 Hercules transport crashed about noon near the town of Ain Kercha, 50 kilometers (30 miles) southeast of Constantine, the main city in eastern Algeria. (AP)

An Algerian military transport plane slammed into a mountain Tuesday in the country’s rugged eastern region, killing 77 people and leaving just one survivor, the defense ministry said.
Air traffic controllers lost radio and radar contact with the U.S.-built C-130 Hercules turboprop just before noon and dispatched helicopters to try to find it. The plane was discovered in pieces on Mount Fortas near the town of Ain Kercha, 50 kilometers (30 miles) southeast of Constantine, the main city in eastern Algeria.
The plane was heading to Constantine from the southern Saharan city of Tamanrasset, which has a massive military presence due to its proximity to the country’s unstable southern borders. It was at least 24 years old, according to sales information supplied by its maker, Lockheed Martin Corp.
The plane carried 74 passengers and four crew members, the military said in its statement, blaming poor weather for the crash.
Earlier in the day, Algerian government officials and Algerian state media had reported that the plane had 99 passengers, making for a much higher death toll.
The lone survivor- a soldier- suffered head injuries and was treated at a nearby military facility before being flown to the military hospital in Algiers, a retired Algerian intelligence officer said. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.
Civil defense officials at the snowy crash site said the plane broke into three parts and women and children were among the dead. Military transports in Algeria routinely carry not only soldiers but military families and sometimes even other civilians, if space is available.
Commander Farid Nechad, who was coordinating recovery efforts, said that 55 bodies had been recovered so far but conditions at the crash site were difficult.
“Unfavorable weather conditions and storms accompanied by snow in the region were behind the crash,” the defense ministry said.
The presidency announced a three-day period of mourning, calling the soldiers who had died “martyrs for the country.”
Lockheed Martin’s hulking C-130 Hercules transport, born out of the experiences of the 1950-53 Korean War, has been used by air forces all over the world to help fight wars or save lives in humanitarian situations.
Lockheed Martin confirmed that it sold C-130s to Algeria from 1981 to 1990 and said if Algerian authorities asked, the company would work with them to investigate Tuesday’s crash. It did not release specific information on the age of the plane.
In other crashes involving similar planes, six people died in November 2012 when an Algerian Air Force C-130 crashed into a hillside in France, according to the Aviation Safety Network’s database. In 2003, 10 people died when an Algerian Air Force.

APC accuses PDP of bribing lawmakers with millions of dollars to decamp

APC says PDP will be voted out in 2015
Nigeria’s main opposition party has accused the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of using public funds to lure back some of the federal lawmakers who defected from the ruling party to the opposition.
The The All Progressives Congress, APC, condemned the alleged action by the ruling party, terming it “political horse trading carried too far.”
In a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the party said the PDP, in a show of desperation, rolled out an enticement package that promised $2 million (N328 million) to each Senator who returns to the PDP; $1 million (N164 million) to a member of the House of Representatives, and $10 million (N1.64 billion) to a “leader” who abandons the APC for PDP. It claimed that the price tag for the federal legislators from Rivers State was even higher – $5 million (N821 million) each.
The APC, however, said no amount of inducement would stop the change on the horizon ‘as the long-suffering people of Nigeria were ready and eager to vote out the PDP next year.’
Five PDP to APC and back to PDP
Five members of the House of Representatives on Tuesday announced their defection from the APC to the PDP, while one member also decamped from the PDP to the APC. The five members: Ladan Bichi (Kano), Abdulsalam Adamu (Kano), Sani Galadima (Zamfara), Ibrahim Gusau (Zamfara) and Umar Bature (Sokoto) said they were decamping from the APC to PDP; while Isa Ashiru, who represents Kaduna State, decamped from the PDP to APC.
The APC said the five House of Representatives members who took the PDP’s bait and returned to the latter were ‘dirty traitors.’ It said when the lawmakers initially defected to the APC, they were neither forced to do so nor given any incentive beyond the rare opportunity offered them to be a part of the looming change.
The opposition party expressed the hope that the defectors would declare the money they allegedly collected from the PDP to those who voted them into office. The party said it also hoped the lawmakers would pretend to be democratic by sharing the money with their constituents.
”Nigerians can now see why their country has gone broke; why the allocation to states from the Federation Account has continued to dwindle, and why infrastructures have either remained decrepit or non-existent. It is not difficult to imagine the number of boreholes that 10 million can sink, or how far such a huge amount will go in building cottage hospitals and health clinics.
”Things are bound to get worse in the days ahead because the desperate PDP will, more and more, use public funds to try to change the course of history. We therefore urge Nigerians to remain resolute in the face of what will be a wave of inducements never before seen in these climes, because there is no going back on the plan to vote out the PDP next year and save Nigeria from a rapacious and inept leadership,” the APC said.
When contacted on the allegations, the PDP spokesperson, Olisa Metuh, said the party would issue a response on Wednesday morning.

•  Targets N5tn revenue annually from manufacturing

President Goodluck Jonathan has launched the Nigeria Industrial Revolution Plan (NIRP) and the National Enterprise Development Programme (NEDEP), aimed at ushering in a new era for industrial, micro, small and medium enterprises development in Nigeria.
Speaking during the launch yesterday in Abuja, Jonathan described the NIRP as the most ambitious and comprehensive road map that would transform the nation’s industrial landscape, boost skills development, enhance job creation and conserve foreign exchange.
He said: “The NIRP is the flagship industrialisation programme ever embarked upon by this country. It will fast-track industrialisation, accelerate inclusive economic growth, job creation, transform Nigeria’s business environment and stop the drain on our foreign reserves caused by importing what we can produce locally.”
He said the plan was the most ambitious and comprehensive industrialisation programme since it is based on the areas where Nigeria has a competitive and comparative advantage.
He identified such areas as agriculture and agro-products, metals and solid minerals, oil and gas, construction and light manufacturing services, stressing that the enumerated sectors are where Nigeria could be number one in Africa and in the top 10 globally.
The president said the NIRP would address all the major physical constraints impeding industrialisation, improve the nation’s investment climate and promote the patronage of made-in-Nigeria products.
“The goal of the Nigeria Industrial Revolution Plan is to increase the contribution of the manufacturing sector to GDP from the present four per cent to more than 10 per cent over the next five years. This will boost the annual revenue earnings of the Nigerian manufacturers by up to N5 trillion per annum,” the president said.
Jonathan further explained that NEDEP would help reposition the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector as the major driver of job creation and inclusive economic growth, adding that the federal government would continue to promote the patronage of made-in-Nigeria products through the implementation of its local patronage policies and programmes.

He said NEDEP was designed to develop and grow the MSMEs because all over the world, MSMEs are the primary drivers of employment, adding that with the successful implementation of NEDEP, Nigeria would attain her dream of inclusive economic growth.
“A survey conducted by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in 2010 showed that we have about 17 million MSMEs, employing over 32 million people.
“If each of these 17 million MSMEs employ one more person, we will create an additional 17 million jobs thereby reducing unemployment in our country,” Jonathan revealed.
The president added: “The NIRP and NEDEP will give additional impetus to our Transformation Agenda by ensuring value addition, enterprise development and industrialisation.
“On our own part, the federal government will continue to support local manufacturers by buying vehicles that are made in Nigeria. And as long as those vehicles are produced in this country, the federal government will buy them. So we also encourage the state governments to support the patronage of made-in-Nigeria products in their states.”
In his welcome address, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, said the holistic and integrated nature of the NIPR and NEDEP had provided synergy and necessary linkages with other development plans of the various ministries, departments and agencies of government and the private sector, promising that the ministry would partner all the stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the programmes.
“The NIRP and NEDEP are both holistic and integrated. This means that they are joined at the waist with other MDAs. The NIRP and NEDEP adopt inclusive structures  which bring in other government agencies and the private sector to ensure adequate policy synergy,” Aganga said.

360Hawt: Omawumi – Finally + You Must Love Me + Serious Love Nwantinti (Remix)

360Hawt: Omawumi – Finally + You Must Love Me + Serious Love Nwantinti (Remix)
Multiple awards winning Nigerian singer, Omawumi has released three beautiful ballads that captures the essence of the Valentine season and an everyday lovers’ anthem. The three songs entitled Finally, You Must Love Me and Serious Love Nwantinti (remix) are timeless classics that show more musical diversity of the gifted singer.
Without any hype, the first cut, ‘Finally’ produced by E-Kelly is a powerful music narrative that has a mind of its own. It describes the genesis of every relationship, the lady’s pretence and the required patience by the man before giving up on his prospective lover. The rhythm and melody expresses personal ecstasy as she delivers the song. Since everyone has experienced either some success or failure at love, the subject is a familiar territory.
The Second single, ‘You Must Love Me’ is more receptive due to its mid-tempo masterpiece. The lyrics is enthralling with the profession of true love and then, you can’t fault Omawumi’s vocal charms and the song’s excellent production by Sizzle Pro. It’s very infectious.
With the third single, ‘Serious Love Nwatinti (remix)’, Omawumi highlights her love for live instrumentation. One will also notice that the tempo of the song has increased compared to the original version on her debut album, Wonda Woman.
Omawumi sure has a great musical mind that goes beyond one type of music and she pushes the boundaries at every given opportunity with a much heavier confidence on R&B-infused vocals.

World Bank Grants $80 Million Research Facility To Universities

en universities have been granted eight million dollars each from the World Bank as part of efforts to increase research capacities of the country’s ivory towers to meet international standard.
At a meeting with the Nigerian Universities Commission in Abuja, lead economist on the World Bank Team, Andrea Blom said the aim is to fast track rapid development within the African sub-region through the Africa Centres of Excellence Project (ACE) in the schools across Nigeria.
Mr Blom, who identified poverty as a major challenge facing Africa told the Supervising Minister for Education, that Nigeria has once again taken the lead among other African nations through the ACE Project that would drive greater solutions to the challenges in the country.
The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Universities Commission, Professor Julius Okogie said the universities achieved this benefit from a competition among other African countries clearing the pathway for a major boost in the nation’s tertiary institutions.
The officials from the World Bank however stated that researchers at each centres of excellence would be expected to come up with knowledge related to critical sectors of the economy such as oil and gas, productivity and agriculture.
Many have in the past blamed the country’s low global academic ranking to poor publications of research achievements but with grant like this, the target would hopefully begin to come to realization in the near future.
