Traditional rulers in Isokan, Ayedaade and Irewole Local government of the State of Osun have endorsed the second term of Rauf Aregbesola as governor the state.

The monarchs stated that Aregbesolas government has performed beyond everybody's expectation and so deserved to continue the good works he has started.
According to spokesperson of the Monarchs, Akire of Ikire, Oba Olatunde Talabi, "this is the first time the state has been blessed with a governor that has listening ears. Aregbesola's continuity in Office will benefit the people and the state in no small measure.
"This is why we thought it wise to endorse the governor for second term so that he can finish the good work he started in Osun. They added that Aregbesola has shown direction for good governance". "The present generation like the time of Awolowo has greatest opportunity especially on education with instructional tools tablet of Knowledge which is one of the best technology in the world."
The governor in his remarks pointed that his administration being a government that has people as its focus will not relent in making life's more meaningful for the people of the state.
According to him, "we have done what most people claimed has never been done in the history of the state, we are so people centered that it will be difficult for us to abandon the people mid stream.
"The best way to pursue our objectives about governance is to run the whole hug of the mandate provided by the constitution, that will give us enough time to meet all our aspiration for the people, it is in the interest of the people that we are seeking re- election." The governor stressed.

Rent a crowd: Ghanaians mobilise South Africans against Nigeria

MY enemy’s enemy is my friend seems to be Ghana’s approach as they mobilise support for their team ahead of the semi-final game against Nigeria Wednesday.
The Ghanaians saw how Nigerians outnumbered Morocco five to one when the Super Eagles defeated the Atlas Lions at the quarter-final stage of the on-going African Nations Championship (CHAN) and do not want to suffer such fate.
‘‘What they are doing is to play on South Africans’ sensibilities following Nigeria’s dominance of games against the Bafana Bafana,’’ a Nigerian resident in Bloemfontein, Emeka Okafor, told The Guardian.
‘‘They have approached some Nigerians, who they thought were South Africans, offering them their shirts in return for support.
“This approach smacks of desperation because this is one of the towns with a large Nigerian population and nothing the Ghanaians can do will give them more support when we clash with them today,” he added.
Many Nigerians from different parts of South Africa have trooped into Bloemfontein ahead of today’s game, just as members of the Nigerian Supporters Club have turned the city into one huge party town.
The Guardian learnt that the Supporters Club, led by Rafiu Ladipo, were expected to meet with leaders of the Nigerian community in Bloemfontein yesterday to plan their support for the Super Eagles today.
Meanwhile, Ghana Coach, Maxwell Konadu, has lauded the mentality of defender, Kwabena Adusei, after the centre-back played through the pain barrier in their quarter-final win.
Adusei scored a 67th minute penalty but was withdrawn shortly after that due to injury.
The Asante Kotoko player picked up the injury before he elected himself to convert the spot-kick, which ensured Ghana eliminated DR Congo 1-0.
“Kwabena Adusei complained two days ago of a groin injury, but it was treated and during the game against DR Congo he approached me with tears in his eyes that he needed to be replaced because the injury had been aggravated in the game,” Konadu said on Monday.
“But I told him to stay on for the next five minutes, because there was the need for someone to warm-up and he agreed to do so. It was during this period that the penalty came and once again he mustered courage to go for the kick, which sent Ghana into the semi-finals.
“If it were any other player who was going through such pains the he wouldn’t have stayed on, let alone taking a crucial penalty for his side, so he needs to be commended for such high level of mental toughness.”
Adusei has been cleared and should be fit to start against Nigeria.

I’m Going Into Farming —D’Banj

Nigeria’s pop music star, D’Banj, has said that he is considering delving into full scale farming to help fight poverty and encourage many African youths to embrace agriculture as a means of livelihood.
He was also made the organisation’s face of 2014 Year of Agriculture Campaign as declared by the Africa Union.
“As a face of the ONE Organisation’s initiative to drive full participation in agriculture, I have to live by example. I am going to engage in agriculture personally to encourage millions of African youths who look up to me as a role model. I need to let them know that unlike the old stereotype of farming which was considered a punishment, modern farming on the contrary,  is a cool source of employment for many graduates,” said D’Banj.
According to him, there should be a change where many youths are expected to embrace agriculture and see it as a potentially high-yielding venture to tackle hunger and poverty on the continent.
“Agriculture is life and it is everything that we live for. It is the only way forward for us in Africa. There are many potentials we are missing out and if we could focus on it, the continent can actually feed the rest of the world,” he said.
D’Banj noted that he once tried in his own little way to tackle hunger by going into Koko Gari project not really on a large scale. But now that he is working with ONE Organisation and has been exposed to the potentials in agriculture, he is ready to get involved deeply.
Also speaking at the launch of the campaign, Camerounian-born Nde Ndifonka, Media Manager, Africa, ONE Organisation, said the organisation is keen on pushing the continent’s leaders to stop paying lip service to the funding of agriculture.
He noted that after 10 years of AU’s affirmation that African countries should devote at least 10 percent of the annual budget to agriculture, only three countries-Ghana, Burkina Faso and Benin have met the target.
Ndifonka said there should be change in paradigm and ONE is championing a petition to force the leaders to increase their funding and help tackle poverty and hunger on the continent.
He disclosed that D’Banj will lead the campaign, sign the petition and get other celebrities across Africa to sign for onward delivery to the leaders at their AU Summit coming up in June.

DDC machines contract: Court awards N17.3bn cost against INEC, Jega

INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega

An Abuja Federal High Court on Tuesday ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to pay N17.3bn as damages to a local manufacturer, Beddings Holdings Limited, over the N34.5bn contract the commission awarded in 2010 for the purchase of Direct Data Capturing machines used for the voters’ registration exercise.
The N17.3bn is 50 per cent of the total sum of the contract, which INEC awarded to three firms – Haier Electrical Appliances Corporation Limited, Zinox Technologies Limited and Avante International Technology Incorporated.
The court presided over by Justice Ibrahim Auta, ordered the payment while delivering judgment in a suit brought by Beddings Holdings Limited against INEC, its chairman Prof. Attahiru Jega; the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, and the three firms which benefited from the N34.5bn DDC machines procurement contract.
Justice Auta held that INEC was aware of the fact that the plaintiff, BHL, had a valid and subsisting patent right over the DDC machines but went ahead to award a contract for the purchase of the equipment without first seeking, and obtaining the permission of the right holder (BHL).
In the suit filed by its lawyer, Mr. John Okoriko, BHL had accused INEC and Jega of infringing on its  patent right by awarding contracts for the purchase and deployment of the DDC machines for the compilation of the voters register without its consent.
In his judgment, Justice Auta held that the country’s Patent and Design Act outlawed the use of a patented invention without the consent of the patent holder.
The judge stressed that INEC and other agencies of the government, were not above the law.
He said, “INEC, like every other government agency has the responsibility of obeying the law of the land.
“INEC as an electoral body should realise that the business of election is important. It touches on the life of the nation.
“So, INEC should always play by the rules, so that its conduct does not affect the outcome of elections.”
“The defendant (INEC) by the award of contract to other suppliers without getting the permission of the patent rights holder has breached his right.”

Super Eagles devour Bafana

WORRIED: Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund during the 2014 African Nations Championship match between South Africa and Nigeria at Cape Town Stadium on Sunday. Picture: GALLO IMAGES/SHAUN ROY
BAFANA Bafana coach Gordon Igesund will quickly want to forget Sunday night, but it is unlikely South Africa and his bosses will let him.
South Africa were booted out of the African Nations Championship after losing 3-1 to Nigeria, a team that had looked disjointed throughout this competition until Sunday night, when they produced their best performance.
A third-place finish in a tournament that appeared designed for Bafana to clinch on home soil only revealed the crisis South African football is in.
The report will read that while the Premier Soccer League pulls in big revenue in sponsors and broadcast deals, its national team, which boasted a strong, locally based side, is bumbling if not mediocre.
Igesund had made as many as four changes to his line-up, once against fiddling with the team just as he did in Bafana’s 1-1 draw against Mali last week, a game that made life difficult for him and his men, given their poor record against Nigeria in tournament football.
On the eve of this final Group A clash — which South Africa only needed a draw from to progress to the quarterfinals here this coming weekend following a win against Mozambique and a stalemate when head to head with Mali — Igesund confirmed Bafana had been dealt a major blow. Itumeleng Khune, captain and goalkeeper, would miss the encounter after injuring his ankle in their second group match at this venue last week.
Igesund did not sit on the fence regarding a replacement, bringing on Moeneeb Josephs between the sticks. With Sunday’s result, the Super Eagles getting two first-half goals from Christantus Ejike and Ifeanyi Ede, the writing was on the wall for Igesund. And when Ejike added his second and Nigeria’s third of the night, it became increasingly clear that Igesund’s bosses would struggle to sit on the fence about the coach’s job.
No one would have seen this coming. The Cape Town Stadium was almost packed to the roof for the first time since the tournament kicked off on January 11.
Bafana were perhaps given a lifeline when the Super Eagles were reduced to 10 men, with Kwambe Solomon getting sent off in the 72nd minute. However, two minutes later, Bafana right-back Vuyo Mere was also sent for an early shower for a second yellow card. That summed it up following a nightmare first half.
Even though Bernard Parker scored from yet another penalty, it was way too late for Bafana to stage a comeback.
Nigeria were long through.
Khune’s absence came to really hurt Bafana. In the 22nd minute, Mere had been beaten in an aerial challenge that led to the opening goal. And Josephs fouled Fuad Salami in the 32nd minute to give the Super Eagles a penalty, which Ede converted with ease.
Nigeria were clinical. Simply put, South Africa were poor and seemed to have done no work on their defence in the build-up to this encounter.
Meanwhile, a penalty deep into injury time handed Mali a deserved 2-1 victory over Mozambique at the Athlone Stadium on Sunday night and cemented their place at the top of Group A.
The first two goals came in quick succession on either side of half-time as Mozambique took the lead through Josemar, before Ibourahima Sidibe equalised for the superior Mali. It looked as though the points would be shared, until substitute Idrissa Traore was brought down in the box late on and he stepped up to score with virtually the last kick of the game.
Mali will now stay in Cape Town to meet the runners-up in Group B in the first quarterfinal on Saturday.

Police arrest 4 with Presidency seal, fake Customs papers

Ogun State Police Command, yesterday, said it arrested four members of a syndicate which specialised in the production of fake Customs papers.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, who paraded the suspects at the SARS office, Magbon, Abeokuta, said the suspects were arrested by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, in Ogun State.
He also disclosed that a 39-year-old man (name withheld) had been nabbed for allegedly producing fake Naira notes.
According to Adejobi, items recovered from the suspects include fake seal of the Presidency, fake stamps of Nigeria Customs Service and Nigeria Police, computers, typewriters, printers and forged tinted glass permit.
He added that eight stolen vehicles, 10 assorted guns and various cartridges were recovered from suspected robbers.
The PPRO said six suspects were already being held in connection with the recovered vehicles.
According to him, four members of the syndicate involved in alleged production of fake customs papers were apprehended at Idiroko on January 9 by SARS operatives led by the officer-in-charge, Mohammed Tijani.
He said the police command had began manhunt to arrest other members of the syndicate who fled during the operation.
He said: “No individual has the right to issue tinted glass permit. So, people should be aware of these hoodlums who are out there to dupe and give wrong papers. Police will charge anybody caught with any fake paper with forgery.
“As a result of the arrest, we were able to discover a man who was into production of fake Naira notes. He, along with another suspect still at large, had been spending this money for people at night. People who deal with liquid cash especially should beware of these hoodlums.”
Speaking with newsmen, the suspects, including Austin Henry, Bala Idris and Peter Patrick, confessed to the crime of forging customs papers in the last three years.
Henry, who was described as the managing director of the syndicate, said those involved in the shady business in Idiroko axis were over 20 but had fled following his arrest.

My Husband Wants To Kill Me With Sex

A 38-year old woman has sought the dissolution of her 12- year old marriage before Ejigbo Customary Court in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria over complaints that her husband was demanding too much sex from her which could lead to her death.
•Bose Bello at court on Monday
•Bose Bello at court on Monday
The embattled wife, Mrs. Bose Bello, is seeking for the dissolution of the marriage and compensation of N1.5 million to move on with her life.
P.M.NEWS learnt that the marriage between the couple crashed after the husband, Kayode threw Bose out of their matrimonial home in Egbe, Lagos and brought in his mistress because the wife could not cope with his alleged insatiable sexual demands.
Bose admitted in court that her husband, Kayode, has high libido and was always demanding for sex which she could no longer cope with.
The mother of two children alleged that when she complained to her husband that he “might sex her to death” with the way he was always demanding for sex, Kayode threw her out of their matrimonial home  over flimsy excuses and brought in his lover identified as Kate Ugwu, whom he is now living with as his wife.
The mother of two children said the problem started when her husband started complaining that she was not satisfying his sexual demands despite her patience and endurance to always satisfy him because she knew he likes having sex a lot.
She said she was always afraid to go home and preferred to stay in her shop but her husband will come for her and force her to return home.
Bose claimed that anytime she returns home her husband will not allow her to rest before demanding for sex.
She claimed that her husband later threatened to bring his mistress to their home and he did so. She alleged that at a point her husband was making love to both of them in their matrimonial home.
Bose said when she complained, he threw her out of their matrimonial home and locked her shop, claiming that in the process all the food items she was selling expired and she was left with nothing to start her business again.
The embattled wife told the court that when her husband first threw her out of the house, their families brought them together to settle the matter.
Bose alleged that when she returned home, her husband continued to threaten her whenever she protested that he was demanding too much sex from her.
“Every minute he returned from work, he will be talking about sex, sex, sex! and I cannot not cope with it. When I complained, he threatened me and asked me to leave the house.”
She said she was tired of the relationship because of the maltreatment and does not love him any longer and wanted to quit the marriage.
She also asked the court to compel him to pay her  N1.5 million so that she would start a new life. In response, Kayode denied the allegations but admitted that he asked her to leave because of her behaviour.
He told the court that  no man can  tolerate what she did to him, claiming that  she called him a ritualist and told him that he wanted to kill her as he did to his first wife.
Kayode told the court that he married Bose after his first wife who had two children for him died. He claimed that he started having problem with Bose when she told him that she wanted to cook separate food for his late wife’s children.
He said hhe had to send her away because of the safety of those children.  He admitted that he has a lover whom he married after Bose left, claiming that his new wife gives him peace and rest of mind.
Kayode  also said he is no longer interested in the marriage with Bose and told her to go in peace. On the issue of compensation, he said he was not ready to do that.
The court adjourned the matter till 27 January for judgment.

Ndume: Military Lacks Coordinated Approach to Fight Boko Haram

By Omololu Ogunmade
The senator representing Borno South senatorial district in the Senate, Ali Ndume, Wednesday alleged that various military bodies fighting the war against terrorism lacked a co-ordinated approach required to win the battle.
Ndume, who made the insinuation while addressing journalists at the National Assembly, Abuja, said lack of effective co-ordination among the Army, Nigeria Air Force (NAF), Nigeria Police and the State Security Service (SSS) was responsible for the attack on his convoy in Pulka on his way to Gwoza on Sunday.
"There is no effective co-ordination among them. It took time to establish contact with the aircraft after the incident. Do you just see a convoy and start shooting? It is against their rule of engagement," he said.
Ndume also condemned the alleged refutal of an earlier statement by NAF that his claim of attack on his convoy was false.
Ndume was reacting to a report in the Leadership newspaper of yesterday that NAF denied admitting that it indeed carried out the attack, allegedly saying its personnel were well trained and knowledgeable enough to differentiate between right and wrong targets.
The statement was at variance with the one the Force issued on Sunday that it took the convoy to be that of Boko Haram members.
But Ndume insisted that the incident occurred at Pulka village while on his way to Gwoza Local Government Area to commiserate with the people of his constituency over the death of some of his kinsmen. "It was by sheer providence that all the people in the convoy escaped unhurt," he insisted.
According to him, if NAF insists on the denial, "it then means that there was a strange aircraft hovering in Nigerian airspace throwing bombs even at a senator of the Federal Republic.

"When I arrived Maiduguri, I notified the Nigerian Army to give me a detachment for security purpose, which they did. I equally notified the police and they gave me a detachment in order to move to those volatile areas. Unfortunately, at exactly 2.10p.m., I was in Pulka waiting for the remaining stakeholders so that we can move together."

"As we moved towards Gwoza, I heard explosions at the back but initially, I thought it was Boko Haram that planted bombs because I passed a culvert. We even suspected some people that were waiving at us from the roadside; we thought they were the ones that detonated the bombs," Ndume said.

He submitted further that for 15 minutes, the Air Force jet was patrolling the area, adding: "We are lucky to be alive. I truly want to believe that it was an operational problem. I think the military did not handle it well. You don’t just see a convoy on a federal highway and you just bombed it like that.

"I had talked to the Chief of Army Staff and sent a text to the Chief of Air Staff. I had talked to the Air Force Commander there (in Maiduguri) and I also talked with the governor.  The Air Force plane did not originate from Maiduguri but Yola," he added.

He added that there were eight soldiers, five policemen and some members of the youth vigilante groups in his convoy when the bombs were thrown.
Ndume, who said he picked up four bombs from the scene, said the Hilux vehicle conveying the military operatives was in the front followed by his own vehicle which he said was also followed by the one conveying the police and another vehicle conveying the civilian Joint Task Force while the last one was conveying the Dan Madami  of Gwoza.
