78-year-old father of Bayelsa Tourism Commissioner has been kidnap by gunmen

The kidnap of the father of Bayelsa Tourism Commissioner is not a joke has this has been confirmed by the Bayelsa Police Command on Wednesday. However, Mr Alex Akhigbe of the Bayelsa Police Command also confirmed the story and thereafter said the command has already commenced rescue operation.

The news reaching us revealed that gunmen abducted Nelson Tempurah, 78, the father of the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Tourism Development was kidnap in his family house, Minibeleu community, near Akassa in Brass Local Government Area of the state in the early hours of today Wednesday 20th November, 2013.


Eye witness said in Yenagoa that the gunmen shot sporadically into the air to scare away people in the neighborhood before kidnaping the man. It was said that gunmen gained entry into the home of the community leader through the roof of the house and collected the mobile phones of those in the building including the house helps.

Bayelsa is one of the few states in Nigeria where a state law makes kidnapping a capital offence punishable by death. However, this has not deterred criminals from the kidnaping menace.
