TORONTO — Marvin Gaye’s eldest son has joined the chorus of
Gaye children accusing Robin Thicke of stealing the late singer’s sound.
Marvin Gaye III alleges Thicke’s smash hit “Blurred Lines”
copies “Got to Give It Up,” his song “Love After War” copies “After the Dance”
and his “Million Dolla Baby” copies “Trouble Man.”

According to his statement of claim, the songs are “so
similar to Gaye’s songs as to leave no doubt but that they were each wholly
dependent for their very creations upon Thicke’s brazen copying.”
In August, Thicke and co-writers Pharrell Williams and Clifford
Harris Jr. filed a lawsuit against Gaye’s family seeking “declaratory relief …
that confirms plaintiffs’ unfettered right to exploit ‘Blurred Lines’ free of
defendants’ claims.”
